Your Opportunity

The Laboratory Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the laboratories and providing administrative assistance to ensure the efficient delivery of academic and practical activities. The role involves preparing laboratory facilities, maintaining equipment and supplies, assisting students and academic staff, and carrying out a range of administrative duties to support the department. 

The successful candidate will be organised, proactive, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a dynamic educational environment. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation of EH&S policies and ensure students and staff are familiar with health and safety procedures during laboratory activities. 
  • Assist in the preparation and day-to-day running of laboratory operations, including setting up sessions, organising materials, and maintaining equipment. 
  • Maintain inventory records and asset registers, ensuring laboratory resources are available, functional, and well-documented. 
  • Carry out routine checks of laboratory equipment and facilities; report issues and support implementation of maintenance plans. 
  • Provide administrative support for procurement tasks, including obtaining quotes, placing orders, and coordinating with suppliers. 
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external partners for logistical support, such as room bookings, deliveries, and vendor access. 
  • Assist academic staff in preparing laboratory sessions and support the delivery of lab based teaching under guidance. 
  • Help organise laboratory-related events, student workshops, and activities linked to research or training programmes. 
  • Provide support with digital systems, including managing lab email accounts, student access to software tools, and digital library resources. 
  • Record and monitor student attendance for in-person lab activities and assist with basic academic record-keeping as needed. 

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a scientific field with laboratory work (equivalent to EQF Level 6). 
  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills with strong attention to detail. 
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to identify practical solutions. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a team while managing tasks independently. 
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritise competing responsibilities. 
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Right to work and be based in Malta. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. 
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally in both written and spoken English and Italian. 

 

Additional Skills and Qualifications (Desirable) 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a science-related, laboratory-related field (equivalent to EQF Level 6). 
  • Previous experience (1–2 years) in a laboratory or higher education environment. 
  • Familiarity with laboratory health and safety procedures, including risk assessments. 
  • Experience working with laboratory inventory and equipment maintenance. 
  • Familiarity with student management systems and academic administration processes. 
  • Experience working in a fast-paced educational environment.
