Fighting against crime without leaving the office
The key of Crime Analysis

We are pleased to announce that the next event in our series Meet the Experts will be presented by Mr Friedrich Steiner.

Friedrich “Sam” Steiner is a Chief Inspector with the Austrian Federal Police, was instrumental in the creation of the Styrian Crime Analysis Unit in 2005 and has been at the helm from the start.
Having been a frontline officer since 1980, his vast experience in uniform, undercover work combatting serious drug crime and as a Command Officer, has prepared him for a management role not only with the police but also as a volunteer for international crime analysis associations.
Friedrich Steiner has been a proud member of the IACA since 2011, serving years as the Chair of European Development, a Sub-committee under the International Outreach Committee. He has played a major role in the growth of European membership and in bringing IACA training events to Austria and Germany. Since 2022 he has stepped back from his IACA functions to have more time for building up the European Crime Analysis Association.

His personal mission: continuous learning, driving change, sharing knowledge and growing his international network.

During the webinar, Friedrich Steiner will explain how he dived into crime analysis after many years as a sworn officer working against drugs and will describe all his different working fields (strategic and operational crime analysis), showing case studies and tools, such as “Analyst’s Notebook”, Geotime, ArGIS Pro, etc. He will also include a detailed overview of how crime analysis is organized in Austria and why standards were implemented so that reports are built in the same way everywhere in the country. He will explain how not every task is “crime analysis” and that many daily things are only of assistance for investigators with no need for creating reports, but still time-consuming. Mr Steiner will also discuss his international network and their brand-new European Association of Crime Analysts.

Join us on 21 April at 11:30 for the next event of our Meet the Experts series!
