EFI Student Guide to Malta – Study & Laboratory Sessions

If you are interested in studying with us, or if you are preparing your first visit to Malta for your laboratory sessions as part of one of our blended programmes, this guide will provide you with all the essential information for your stay.

About Malta

Malta is an archipelago located south of Italy, consisting of three Mediterranean islands: Malta, Gozo, and Comino.

The European Forensic Institute is based on the island of Malta, the largest island and the administrative and economic centre of the country. Malta is known for its dynamic tourism sector, cultural diversity, and international environment.

The country enjoys a warm Mediterranean climate, with hot summers reaching up to 40°C and mild winters typically ranging between 10°C and 15°C, making it an attractive destination year-round.

Language

Malta has two official languages: Maltese and English.

While Maltese is the national language, English is widely spoken and used in education, business, and daily life, allowing international students to adapt easily.

Accommodation

Malta offers a wide range of accommodation options suitable for different budgets.

The European Forensic Institute does not provide accommodation, so students are responsible for arranging their own stay. Common platforms include:

Campus Hub is a popular student residence located approximately 8 minutes walking distance from the Malta Life Sciences Park, making it a convenient option for students.

Malta Life Sciences Park (MLSP)

The European Forensic Institute is located at the Malta Life Sciences Park (MLSP), where our laboratory sessions take place. MLSP is a modern, state-of-the-art facility designed to support research and innovation in life sciences and information technology.

Address:
Sir Temi Zammit Buildings, San Ġwann Industrial Estate, San Ġwann, SGN 3000, Malta

It is located: Near Mater Dei Hospital (Malta’s main public hospital), Close to San Ġwann, Birkirkara, Msida, and Sliema.

Transport

You can reach Malta by air or by sea. Most international travellers arrive via Malta International Airport (Luqa), the island’s only commercial airport.

Getting around Malta is easy thanks to:

  • Public bus services connecting the entire island
  • Taxi services and ride-hailing apps such as Uber and Bolt
  • Car rental services

Due to Malta’s small size, many areas are within short distances, making walking or renting a bicycle or motorcycle practical for short trips.
